Parque Dom Pedro Mall, located in Campinas (SP) — one of the largest shopping centers in Latin America — has just inaugurated a modern solar energy generation system in the form of a carport. The project, which features 930 ASTRO N5 570W modules, reinforces the mall’s commitment to sustainability by adopting solar energy solutions.
Installed over 124 of the mall’s 8,000 parking spaces, the solar carport covers just 1.5% of the parking area. Still, it will supply approximately 6% of the total energy consumption of the shopping center, according to Canal Solar. The mall, which houses around 400 stores across 126,000 square meters of leasable area, now benefits from a solution that combines energy efficiency with convenience for visitors.
With an expected annual generation of 780 MWh, the system will deliver significant environmental benefits, equivalent to the energy consumption of more than 5,000 households or the recharging of approximately 6,000 electric vehicles. In addition, it will help reduce the mall’s carbon footprint by 42.4 metric tons of CO₂ per year, the same as planting more than 1,500 trees.

“Implementing a solar carport at the largest shopping center in Latin America is a major step forward, combining sustainability, cost savings, and convenience. It’s a solution that prepares the mall for the future with clean energy and infrastructure to support electric vehicle fleets,” says Gabriel Cortes, CEO of Partners Solar, the company responsible for the project implementation.
For Astronergy, the manufacturer of the photovoltaic modules used in the project, initiatives like this one further demonstrate the role of solar energy as a key driver of sustainable and innovative urban solutions — and inspire other businesses to follow suit.

“Astronergy is very proud to be part of projects like this,” says Carolina Pain, Head of Marketing LATAM at Astronergy. “Carports and other applications in high-traffic commercial environments are strategic for the brand, as they clearly showcase the benefits of solar energy and help to popularize the use of renewable sources. We hope to see more shopping centers and companies with open-air parking areas adopting carports as a clean and sustainable energy solution.”
